The NFL needs Patrick Mahomes
A 2x weekly newsletter dedicated to sports fans everywhere. I discuss a wide range of issues in the sports world with an emphasis on the next man up.
Friends,
Patrick Mahomes came out of nowhere, he really did. Drafted in 2017 by the Kansas City Chiefs, 10th overall, Patrick has already established himself as a Hall of Famer, and in G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) barbershop conversations across the nation. Most NFL fans consider Tom Brady the G.O.A.T., but Pat is slowly creeping up. He’s already been to a total of 3 Super Bowls, winning two, and it only took him five years, very impressive.
The NFL should be thanking their lucky stars. The league is filled with an abundance of quarterback talent, but nothing quite like Pat. With Tom Brady deciding to call it quits this past February, the league can move on from one great to another. Mahomes is now the face of the league. He’s actually what the league wants. A clean-cut, bi-racial, half-black and white guy from a small suburban town.
Future of the NFL
Mahomes is considered the future of the league for a number of reasons. Pat’s arm strength, mobility, football IQ, and accuracy set him apart from the competition. He’s Aaron Rodgers on steroids. I’m truly impressed by the way he’s able to read a defense, see the pocket collapsing, scramble out the pocket, and make a play. And his ability to throw over his body is something I’ve only seen from a few quarterbacks. I mean, several quarterbacks attempt it, but only a few are as accurate as Mahomes.
Mahomes is an elite quarterback, and that’s nice, but to become the face of the NFL, you need to be as great off the field as you are on the field. Pat’s charismatic personality has made him a beloved figure. He’s a role model to young athletes all over the world, and he’s shown a commitment to giving back. Whether it’s Kansas City, his hometown in Texas, or any other community, Pat delivers.
The NFL is the most watched sport in America. I can’t think of a better player to lead football fans into the next decade. I can confidently say that when the NFL sits down with major TV networks like CBS and NBC, to negotiate their next contract, they’re going in those rooms with leverage. They know how bright of a star they have on their hands, and the more he wins, which I think he’ll continue to do, the more it just adds to overall viewership. People like and want to see a winner. It’s part of the reason why Tom Brady is idolized.
The NFL is in good hands with Patrick Mahomes!
Side Note
As many of you may already know, I’m a die-hard Chicago sports fan. So guess what? The Chicago Bears and several other teams passed up on Mahomes in the 2017 NFL draft. I still can’t believe it!

Do you think the Bears would have used him effectively?
